What is the Graston Technique?
The technique uses specially-designed stainless steel instruments, along with appropriate therapeutic exercise, to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. The instruments also are used diagnostically to follow the kinetic chain, to locate and treat the cause of the symptom as well as the specific area of pain.
Originally developed by athletes, Graston Technique® is an interdisciplinary treatment used by more than 21,000 clinicians worldwide — including physical and occupational therapists, hand therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers.
How does the Graston Technique work?
The Graston Technique works by using specialized tools to target areas of the body where scar tissue and adhesions have formed. By applying pressure and manipulating the soft tissues, our therapists are able to break up these areas of tension and promote healing.
What to expect during a Graston Technique session?
During a Graston Technique session, our therapist will use specialized tools to manipulate the soft tissues in the affected area. This may cause some discomfort, but the therapist will work with you to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the session.
The number of Graston Technique sessions you will need will depend on the severity of your condition and your individual needs. Our therapists will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that is tailored to your goals.
